bloodymarymainI love Bloody Marys - anytime of the day. It’s not just for breakfast anymore. I travel quite a bit and make a point of trying the Bloody Mary in each place I visit. Here are the categories for my pseudo-scientific, semi-subjective rating system, 10 being the best. Do you have a favorite Bloody Mary recipe to share? email it to me and I'll post it here!:

The freshness and/or originality of the edible garnish.
  •  SB#Q - Salad Bar Quantity Quotient.
    The abundance of said garnish.
  •  FQ - Flavor Quotient.
A basic measure of tastiness as compared to my personal taste buds.
  •  UQ - Uniqueness Quotient.
How original or creative in it’s concoction.
  • SQ - Spicy Quotient.
1 being completely benign, 10 being undrinkably spicy.
  • PQ - Presentation Quotient.
How artfully or originally presented is it?
  • ILQ - Intangible Love Quotient.
Would I order it again? Recommend it to a friend or an enemy?

McKay Cottage in Bend, OR

McKay is one of my favorite breakfast spots and they now offer Bloody
Marys! Pam's recipe is unique and tasty. Chipoltle pepper in the mix
gives it a smoky kick and they use my FAVORITE Manzanilla olives!
Cardommon in the rim salt mix makes it very unique.

some restaurant in Positano, Italy

Ok, I forgot the restaurant's name, but it's not really important because the bloody mary wasn't that good and nobody will want to go there for one anyway. The view was outstanding though! We (our Italy workshop group) sat on the rooftop balcony and enjoyed drinks, conversation, and photos of the sunset together. Italy is not the best place for Bloody Marys. The wine, on the other hand...

The only reason it scored 3 on the ILQ was that it was served in the most amazing atmosphere, otherwise it would be a 1 or 2. This was not a bad BM, just plain tomato juice and vodka.

The Old Mill Martini Bar, Bend, OR.

This rustic but modern spot has not only it's creative array of tasty martinis and specialty drinks, but also great food! The have 4, count 'em, 4 specialty Bloody Mary's and this was the first that I tried. It was very delicious, so I have to return now to try the other 3. This one was called the Aloha Bloody Mary and it got it's Hawaiian style from the addition of pineapple juice. Yum! It adds a touch of sweetness which goes nicely with the spice of the locally brewed pepper vodka. A home made salt blend and flavoring make it extra special too. Mahalo for this one!

Ullr's Bar in Breckenridge CO

The folks from the Colorado workshop, where I was teaching, headed out to this fun little bar and game hall. We shot pool and had heated foosball games. My arm kinda hurts this morning. This Mary was a good hearty drink that fit the local bar feel. I had two just to make sure I had the ratings right....

PF Changs in Bel Mar in Denver, CO

I get excited when a restaraunt has a specialty Bloody Mary on their drink list - of course I'm going to order it. This was called the Sechuan Mary and sounded yummy. It was made spicy by use of Absolut Peppar Vodka, which I use frequently at home too to add a nice kick. Alas, it was good, but not anything to write home about - oh wait, I'm writing about it. Enjoyed this one with friends, Bill and Laura Moore, from the Denver area.
